The initial consultation lasts up to 1½ hours and includes the first treatment. Subsequent treatments take approximately 45 minutes to an hour. The purpose of the initial consultation is to assess your current health by gathering information regarding the condition you have, its symptoms, treatments to date, medical and family history, physical conditions such as health of the skin, digestion and diet, sleep patterns, work and social life etc. It also involves making observations about your facial colour, sound of your voice, determining how you are emotionally and how you relate to emotions such as joy, grief, fear and anger. I look at your tongue and take your pulse and in some instances the consultation may not require me to gather all this information. For example, if you have sprained your ankle or developed RSI then it may be more prudent for me to take a more direct approach and treat what is self evident rather than the need to enquire into one's family history or sleep pattern.
During a consultation, a diagnosis is made and a treatment plan devised according to all the information gathered and your expectations from treatment. The frequency and number of treatments can vary and much depends upon your condition, what is causing you concern and treatment goals. Some conditions may be treated with 2-3 treatments, while others may require more. Typically treatment is weekly, then fortnightly and then monthly until treatment is no longer required. However, this depends upon one’s condition, though normally I am able to inform you on your first appointment as to the frequency and number of treatments that may be required and we review this as treatment progresses, based on your response to treatment and your continuing needs, expectations and goals.
