Imagine a shrub that is wilting. When we water the roots, the moisture spreads up through the branches to revive the leaves and the flowers. Acupuncture works in a similar way. But it's not a lack of water that is the problem. It's a disruption in the flow of Qi.

What is Qi?

Qi is vital energy that reaches into every corner of the body through a network of channels called meridians. When Qi moves smoothly and freely, health is maintained. When the flow is depleted or blocked, we become susceptible to illness or pain. Various triggers can disturb the flow of Qi, such as injury, acute or chronic conditions and emotional upset.

Accessing the Qi

There are hundreds of acupuncture points all over the body, each with a unique energetic action. By manipulating needles inserted at a strategic combination of points, an acupuncture therapist activates the Qi to restore a harmonious flow of energy. This brings the body back into balance and supports its ability to heal itself.

I originally came to Ian with a back problem . . . I left with so much more.

The benefits of acupuncture treatment

Qi affects everything, from the functioning of our vital organs to our emotional stability and clarity of thought. As a result, the benefits of acupuncture go far beyond resolving one specific complaint. After a course of treatment, most people feel relaxed and reinvigorated. They also notice an improvement in their sleep patterns, digestion and general wellbeing.

I was surprised at the extremely positive effect the treatment has had on my overall wellbeing.

Acupuncture in Western terms

Scientists have put forward various theories to explain why acupuncture works in Western medical terminology. But no one knows for sure.

Many medical professionals specialising in more conventional techniques regularly refer patients. Acupuncture has been healing people for 3,000 years.
